Let the details
Tell the story
My neighboor is a hunter and his dog is a Brittany Spaniel called "cricket", so here is the portrait dedicated to my neighboor's dog wich is exactly what this dog is : lovely with kids, energetic, the perfect gun-dog according to my neighboor. If you are not a hunter, you have a wonderfull dog that needs daily exercice and will be ready to please and stay with you all the day !
Maria asked me if i could do a portrait of John Carpenter, famous for his horror/Action and science fiction Movies. What a pleasure to draw one of my favorites 80's movies like New York 1997 (french title for Escape from New York ), Christine ,"the thing" and many others. But the best are the soundtrack, composed by Carpenter himself with Analog synthetisers, arpegiator and 80's sound : pure emotion.
And here are some details to discover the movies and some fun facts....
Kim asked me to add the Leonberger to my To-Draw-List, so here it is and the explanations about this Giant dog !
I've beem back to school in may, following a request from the school teacher of elementary school (5 years old kids). She asked me what i was doing for a living and i replied "drawings". So she jump on the occasion and asked me to come to school to present my work to the kids....
explain what you Do... to a kid.
This was the point, very easy for the 15th first minutes, challenging for the next 15th and free-style for the last 15th. (try to keep focused two dozen of 5 years Old Kids more than half an hour.... this is a very exhausting Job !)
So i explained i was drawing inside drawings and i took the example of the Boston Terrier (Waf Waf) as this is a character a Kid can understand everything. so they did explore the picture, telleing me what was inside and asked me why the dog was farting (they enjoy theses details so much...) and making so much noise while sleeping : It's a Boston Terrier !
The Teacher asked me if she could do the same with the kids. I provide a drawing about a wolf and she ask the kids to draw a wolf-based picture based on the stories at school.
She show me recently the result and here it is :
Swiss Army knife
So I'm president but I'm also the "chief" of my Lunch, my driver when going to the Post Office, The accountant, Sales and Marketing Manager, Performances Analyst, Chief of the buying Department, Manager of the R&D department, Office cleaning technician, doodle drawer, and many little jobs....
So as i sometimes sleep during meetings with my accountant reminder and have no time to keep tracking of the sales analysis, i need some extra hands i don't have.
I'm a Human Swiss Army Knife and have a special skill : I hate to do repetitive tasks, specially when a computer can do it, so let's do some programmation !
There is a skill i still use nowadays and this is the programmation of simple tasks a computer can do instead of me. I recently did a accounting program, using my monthly reports, extracting the numbers and adding them to each other : transforming 1 day of annoying work into 2 minutes job.
In my opinion, programming in Perl is the most usefull programmation language i learned !
Filling Postal slips makes Pierre go Crazy
I've asked the post office to see what they were using and they show me their brand new printers, not so noisy, and that runs with win XP.
I've done some search and found a second-hand one, running with Win7, and that print perfectly on several sheets of paper, and have dozens of postal tracking slips filled-up with my addres, ready to be filled with destination address, JOB Done !
Back to Work
After few weeks of rest i'm taking my pen back for custom orders i've been asked for. 3 different artworks with various thematics (love to discover new things!).
I still Accept Custom request, but will limit them to few pieces each month, due to lack of Time !
I've been commissoned an artwork for the Maisons-Laffitte Jazz Festival....
Inside the Drawing
This is the subject i've been working on : the illustration of a book cover about the "Installation Theory", a book about Social, Cognitive & Computational Perspectives.
It's been the most difficult drawing since the beginnning of the year 2017, like drawing Freud, Heidegger or Kant concepts (difficult drawings of the previous years).
Saadi, the writer wanted an upgraded book cover for his book wich looked like three Pacmans looking at each other, outlining a triangle shape in the blank spaces.
So the idea was to fill in the 3 circles with drawings, each color having a special theme :
Installation theory combines three layers of determinants (material, embodied, social)
Red : Control of behaviour in public space -> Social
Blue : embodied professional competences -> embodied
Green : Objects’ specification and control -> Material
The final drawing
It took me several days to put the drawing into shapes and corrections from the Author to get the perfect final drawing. I draw in black and white and use my computer to put the final color. The lower right circle was the last to be drawn, and the top one was the first to be finished. (social pressure is easier to represent !)
Here are some comments about the inside drawings :
The social pressure are the Law (lawyer and judge), Order (policemen), Dresscode (3 business suits and casual clothes), A group protesting "No" and one "yes", representation of the Male And Female in advertisement, Boss asking for results with special Bonus if reached, Baby crying in a crowded space, the adult hand ready for shutting down the baby under people eyes, School, Parents, God, soccer play, guy shaking racing flags.
The objects give inlfuence to your behaviour : An open Space office, a car, a watch, tools, road signs, a table set with fine porcelain and plenty of cutlery, baby toys, an Airport checkin' path, hause, stairways, Roadsigns, a spider, cellphone,etc...
What's inside your brain : notion of Good or Bad, Love and hate, Logic, how to drive a car, Time, Color mixing, equilibrium, sorting things, how to handle a problem, Brain circonvolutions, The homonculus penfield (cognitive representation of the human body : big head, toes, hand, inexistent body).
Final touch : coloring the picture with my favorite digital software and printing it out on my (new) color printer :
